Shubman Gill reduces the gap with Babar Azam at the top of the ICC men's ODI rankings after reaching a career-high rating.

opening batter for India The difference between Shubman Gill and Babar Azam at the top of the ICC men’s ODI batter rankings has shrunk to only 10 rating points.

Gill’s career-high rating of 847 points came after a strong performance in the 2023 Asia Cup and the first two ODIs against Australia.

The young Indian batsman defeated Australia in Punjab and Indore by scoring 74 (63) and 104 (97) runs, for a total of 302 runs at an average of 75.50 during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Babar, on the other hand, struck two back-to-back half-centuries against Afghanistan before scoring a magnificent 150 against Nepal at the Asia Cup. The Pakistani captain, however, was unable to reach 30 in the three innings that followed against Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. Over the course of the competition, he suffered a 20 point rating loss.

In the third ODI match against Australia on Wednesday, Gill had an opportunity to close the remaining deficit before the 2023 World Cup. But Rohit Sharma and his team have given him a well-earned break. This sets up a matchup between the top two batters in the world in the largest competition.

The top 10 batting rankings did not undergo any significant adjustments. Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa, Harry Tector of Ireland, and Imam-ul-Haq of Pakistan complete the top five.

A little further down the rankings, Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka and Kagiso Rabada of South Africa each climbed one spot to take 15th and 16th places, respectively. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh fell two positions, from 15 to 17.

The top three bowlers in the ICC men’s ODI rankings are Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Josh Hazlewood of Australia, and recently-improved Indian Mohammed Siraj.
